Assignment #4 Question #3

Take a look at St. Clair College’s website. In relation to visuals, what would you propose to St. Clair College to improve/enhance this new website to effectively market to potential incoming local domestic students? Please provide three (3) recommendations and justify your answer with detailed reasoning. (9 Marks)

Taking into account the competition that stems from college education institutions would assume the importance of effective online marketing, especially from their main website where most potential applicants are spending more time. With that being said, having warm welcoming, inclusive and informative content on this site is crucial when in the hopes for users to be encouraged enough to browse further or even take action. With some suggestions, I believe that if St.Clair incorporated more visuals that spread a certain message beyond their text information has the power to alter how an outside perspective interprets the college’s personality. This could attract a new audience in the sense that maybe wouldn’t cause them to react uninterestedly if they’re interacting with a website that is visually offering something of value to them that helps leverage the experience for all users. First and foremost St. Clair should be prioritizing spreading the enlightenment of what their college has to offer. From personal experience as a former applicant, I was intensely curious to know what the school looked like internally, in action and simply showcasing a glimpse of campus life and other student amenities. With that being said, the school should be taking more photos of active classrooms, labs and lounge areas around the school to provide credibility to their stories and allow potential applicants to make their own envisions of themselves in those rooms one day. The second suggestion, kind of leans into the first suggestion but in more of a culturally relevant approach, but from a student recognition perspective. In this generation of time, we have become fully diverse making our society interconnected, and with that comes fostering a mosaic promotional approach that demonstrates a commitment to encompassing racial and cultural differences throughout the main page and the intent of building a welcoming environment for every potential student. As a result of this context, this recommendation of supplying visually diverse representation will underline and support the appeal of relevant morals that a large selection of individuals will find respectful and inviting. For the final suggestion, it would be highly beneficial for St.Clair to utilize personalized user experience to increase their outside engagement. Knowing how humans like to feel special in any circumstance should be at least taken advantage of through tailored content features that highlight needs, and preferences specifically for each individual. In this attempt, sending recommendations based on user profiles is a good way to segment effectively to implement dynamic, real-time interactions with users. It would be valuable for St.Clair to develop tools that explore student-based interests and focus on prioritizing key amenities or communication channel options where students can partake in interacting and advocating for something new. On the other side of this suggestion from the perspective of readers, this demonstration of the college’s commitment to meeting individual needs beyond the understanding of all potential students will help encourage enrollment rates and even spread further aspiration.
